外教如是说——学院外教谈预科留学

Nathan York Stilwell: 美国人,哈丁大学计算机科学硕士,现任江苏国际预科学院计算机教学组组长。
Language teaching requires a lot of direct communication in the class so we always ensure that the numbers in each are small so that every student has the best opportunity to use their English and express themselves.
语言教学需要许多课堂上直接的交流。为了让每个学生都有很好的机会用自己的语言方式表达自己,因此我们要确保每个班级的人数较少。


Rob: 澳大利亚,预科学院副院长
The College has a very high requirement for recruiting teachers. They must have a professional teaching qualification and rich experience in China.
Chinese students need to adjust to the foreign style of teaching in a foreign university so we teach not only English and subjects such as Business Studies, IT and math but we include campus orientation as well with a focus on English for Academic Purposes ie English as needed in a university plus the study skills for independent learning and cultural studies.
学院在招聘老师的时候有一套很高的标准。他们必须有专业的教育资格并且在国内有丰富的教学经验。
中国学生需要逐步适应国外大学的教学模式,所以我们不仅仅是教英语,还包括一些商务课程,计算机和数学的学习,而且我们还包括了学校定向和重点放在英语上的学术目标。举个例子说,英语加上独立学校的技巧和文化学习在学里面都是很必须的。


Mark Desmond Maloney: 澳大利亚人,美国加州大学计算机科学专业毕业,现任学院计算机课老师。
These adjustments take time and our teachers have great experience and patience… the Chinese classroom methods focus on the listen and learn style while the foreign style requires a greater understanding of independence.
这些调节需要时间,我们的老师有大量的经验和足够的耐心。。。。中国课堂教学方法注重听力和学习方式而国外则要求对独立有个更深层的了解。


Tom William: 美国人,专长数学,计算机科学及国际商务。
Although we have found that generally the Chinese students’ study habits are good they are not completely compatible with the western style of testing. Whereas in China exams are at the end of the year, in a foreign university exams are often weekly and assignments require a large amount of unsupervised research. Expression of students’ own ideas is also very important.
尽管我们也普遍的发现中国学生的学习习惯是好的,他们在面对西方模式的考试的时候没有完全的竞争力。在中国,考试都是在每学期结束的时候,在国外的大学,考试经常是每周都有,作业也要求大量的无人监督的研究调查。学生自己的独特见解显得尤为重要。


Rob: 澳大利亚,预科学院副院长
It’s our philosophy that sending students who are unprepared for both studying and campus life is a huge risk. Foundation courses provide the solution to potential risk. And the proof of this is in the more than 1,000 students who are successfully studying abroad at the moment.
我们的哲学是把那些对学习和校园生活没有准备的学生送出去是存在大大的风险的。基础课程提供给我们措施去解决这些潜在的风险。 事实上目前有1000多名学生在国外成功的学习就证明了这一点。


Laura Kyser: 美国人,数学教育学士学位,现任学院数学课老师。
Many students when they begin at the College lack self-management skills for both study and life. Of course these are essential skills when you travel away from the normal support of family and friends. Here we offer the opportunity to do this while still in China to lessen the culture shock and to lessen the financial risk.
许多学生刚开始来预科学习的时候,他们在学习和生活上缺乏自我管理的能力。当然在你得到家人和朋友的支持离开家的时候这些都是基本技能。现在,在我们仍然在中国的时候,我们提供了机会做到这一点,来减少文化冲击和减少金融风险。


Tom William: 美国人,专长数学,计算机科学及国际商务。
Our graduate students have shown a clear ability to improve the level of university they can apply to. Many of our students had quite low expectations when they enrolled here but by the time they have spent a year of Foundation Studies then they have been able to be accepted into higher universities than what they originally expected. So you can see that Foundation studies open many more doors for a young student and offers increased opportunities for them too.
我们已经毕业的学生已经让我们知道他们有这个能力能申请到更高一层次的学校。很多学生刚注册进来的时候他们对自己的期望很低,但是时间久了,通过一年的基础学习,他们已经进入到了比原来期望中更理想的学校学习。因此你可以看到这个基础学习给许多年轻的学生打开很多门,并且也给他们提供了很多机遇。


Craig Lynch: 澳大利亚人,商业管理硕士,现任学院商务课老师。
The transition from high school to university is a key time in any persons’ life and I feel that our programs provide not just good preparation of their future study but the essential guidance for career choices in a very competitive world.
从高中到大学这个转变在任何人的生命中都是一个关键的时间。我感觉我们的项目学习不仅仅给学生提供了他们将来学习的很好准备,而且也是对学生将来在竞争激烈的社会中职业生涯选择的基本指导。
